Featured Mistraslation of the Day: Votar for Vote Out

Featured Mistranslation

Twitter recently exploded with Taylor Swift´s response to President Donald Trump´s tweet: “When looting starts, shooting starts.” Swift´s response was translated immediately to Spanish in different Spanish media. Unfortunately, her message was not conveyed accurately in many instances.

Original: “We will vote you out”. Posted translation: “Te votaremos”. Maybe they meant to write “Te botaremos” as in “throw out”? But the posted translation means exactly the opposite (“We will vote you in”). More accurate alternatives: “Votaremos para que te vayas”, “Te sacaremos con nuestro voto”, “Te echaremos con nuestro voto”, etc. etc.
